Active Full Stop Work Order

Code: Active Full SWO (Stop work status)

Description: This is a Stop Work Order status where DOB has ordered all construction work at the property to stop, except limited corrective work allowed to fix the violations. Work must not restart until DOB rescinds the order.

Practical Meaning: For a homeowner, an active full SWO means you must stop all building work on site, except any specific safety repairs DOB clearly allows. If anyone continues regular work, DOB can issue extra fines and violations.

Where You May See It: In BIS or DOB NOW as the status of a stop work order, on posted DOB notices at the property, in enforcement case summaries, or in emails from your design professional or expeditor.

Why It Matters: This status signals the highest level of enforcement for construction work at your property, which can freeze project timelines and financing until it is cleared. Do not confuse this with a partial SWO, which may allow some limited work to continue.
