rescinded SWO – Rescinded Stop Work Order

Code: Rescinded SWO (Clearance status)

Description: This is a status that shows DOB has lifted a Stop Work Order after the problems were corrected and any required penalties were paid. It means the order is no longer in effect.

Practical Meaning: For a homeowner, a rescinded SWO means you may restart permitted work, as long as permits are active and all DOB conditions are met. It also means lenders, buyers, and insurers will see that the enforcement order has been closed.

Where You May See It: In BIS or DOB NOW under the stop work order record, in DOB enforcement case notes, in emails from your architect or expediter, or in clearance letters used for refinancing or closing.

Why It Matters: This status shows that you completed the required corrective work and paid any penalties, so DOB has allowed the project to move forward again. Do not confuse this with an active SWO, where work must still stay stopped.
