Code: NYC.ID (City login account)
Description: (New York City Identity) is the free email-and-password account the city requires you to create before you can log in to DOB NOW, BIS Options, and other city online services. It is not a city ID card, a physical document, or proof of residency.
Practical Meaning: If you want to check your violations, file reports, or submit permits in DOB NOW, you must first create a free NYC.ID account using your email address. You create it once at nyc.gov/dobnow and use it every time you log in.
Where You May See It: DOB NOW login page, DOB NOW: Build, DOB NOW: Safety, BIS Options, DOB licensing portal, DOB letters that direct you to file or respond online.
Why It Matters: Since June 3, 2024, NYC.ID is required for all DOB NOW users — without it you cannot access your filings, pay fees, or submit required reports online. Do not confuse NYC.ID with a physical New York City ID card (IDNYC), which is a separate program.
