Traditional stucco is a cement-based exterior rendering system applied directly over masonry or metal lath. It consists of Portland cement, sand, lime, and water, forming a dense, rigid exterior shell once fully cured. Unlike integrated insulated cladding systems, stucco relies on material mass and breathability rather than integrated insulation layers.
Important information
A DOB violation is attached to the property, not to the person. The current owner is responsible even if the work was done by a previous owner 20 years ago. There is no time limit for building code violations in NYC.
As the owner you have to know that:

- Rigid, impact-resistant surface
- May develop hairline cracks if stress occurs
- Vapor permeable; depends on proper flashing and drainage detailing
- Requires correct curing and expansion joints
