Since June 3, 2024, DOB NOW users must log in through the NYC.ID single sign‑on system, and this requirement continues in 2026.
Updated!
Updated April 2026: DOB NOW still requires an NYC.ID account for all new and returning users. The steps below remain the same; we added links to DOB’s latest guides and training resources.
Because DOB has updated some license workflows since 2024, always check the current DOB NOW: Licensing page for the latest application path.
The Department of Buildings (DOB) recently introduced a new requirement for its online portal, DOB NOW, which allows users to manage applications for their building code and zoning projects. With the introduction of the new login system, users must link their accounts to NYC.ID, a new portal for all government services in NYC. An NYC.ID account is required only for logging in to DOB NOW services that now use the NYC.ID single sign-on system.
How to Create an Account
The new login steps are simple:
- On DOB NOW’s login page, input the email you have used in the past to login to DOB NOW (users need the same email when creating NYC.ID so their existing DOB NOW access and records can connect properly).
- You must use the same email address when first creating your NYC.ID to access your previous filings.
- The system will redirect you to the NYC.ID registration page, where you can complete the fields and select Create Account.
- Activate the new account through an emailed activation link from NYC.ID.
What exactly requires NYC.ID (and what doesn’t)
- You need an NYC.ID account to log into DOB NOW: Build, Safety, BIS Options and Licensing.
- DOB NOW: Inspections registration and eFiling registration did not change and do not use NYC.ID.
